Last Wednesday Emma asked me if I would play a role in her film. It sounded like fun and I was delighted to be asked. She scheduled the shooting of my portion for Sunday afternoon at Stanmore, near the station. I arrived to find they were still shooting the part played by Justin, so I got some photographs of that as Emma directed. Then they did sound takes in another room. It was all fascinating.
And then, it was my turn. I only had one line. I was dusting a bookshelf with a ridiculous apron on and a huge bright red feather duster. They found me a shirt that had just the right look and perversely set up artificial light to give the look of natural light coming from a side that was actually just a wall.
I was dusting as my close friend and associate was explaining that he was getting cold feet and that he was reconsidering his involvement in some nefarous scheme. I turn on him and say in a mixture of anger, exasperation, and anxiety, "Look! Are we still in this together?" We did it about a dozen times in quick succession. Tawfik was very pleased we got it done so quickly, it was the end of a long day for them and they were running low on tape. He was kind and said the camera likes me. Emma seemed very pleased with how it went. She said I will see how it fits in to the overall film when I get a copy in due course.
So watch out at the next short film festival for a fim by Emma Arnell, Tawfik Elgazzar, director of photography and starring a very angry bright red feather duster. Thanks guys, I had a ball.
